Pesticides are chemical or biological substances used to protect crops from pests such as insects, weeds, fungi, and bacteria. While they help improve agricultural productivity and food quality, improper or excessive use can leave harmful residues on food and in the environment. Ensuring that pesticide levels remain within safe, regulated limits is essential for consumer health and maintaining global food safety standards.
Types of Pesticides:
Over the past few years, European regulatory bodies have increasingly detected pesticide residues in Pakistani rice, particularly belonging to chemical groups such as tricyclazole, carbendazim, acephate, and chlorpyrifos. These detections have resulted in heightened testing requirements, shipment rejections, and significant financial losses for exporters.
Ensuring accurate pesticide residue analysis is therefore critical to maintaining market access, protecting consumer health, and strengthening Pakistan’s reputation in international trade.

Pesticides Residue Analysis Package Y1109. The Scope of the package (Y1109 covers all the pesticides as done under XP109, package already launched couple of years back). The package was developed to specifically cover most of the chemicals detected in Pakistani rice exports to Europe over the last 5 years.
